Postnatal Health Care
As we all know, breast milk is the best form of food for the babies for the first 6 months at least. We encourage you to breastfeed as soon as delivery if possible. If you need assistance with breastfeeding, the midwives in the post natal ward would be more than happy to help. Dr. Kannan encourages all her patients to breastfeed. If you have any concerns or questions about breastfeeding, please do not hesitate to talk to Dr. Kannan.
Postnatal visit is an important part of the pregnancy care. This is done at 6 weeks after delivery. During this visit Dr. Kannan will do an examination of your abdomen and may be a vaginal examination for pap smear if you are due. She will also discuss the contraception during this visit. It is important to commence contraception as soon as delivery due to the high risk of pregnancy immediately postpartum. Breastfeeding on its own should not be relied on for contraception.
Contact Dr Kannan if you have any specific concerns during your pregnancy through the private rooms on 07 4771 6677 or 07 – 4722 6688 if afterhours. When in labour, please contact 07 – 4722 6688 to talk to experienced midwives in Mater Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Hyde Park. Once you are assessed, they will inform and be in touch with Dr. Kannan.
