Education and Research
Dr Kannan is a keen researcher and educator in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Urogynaecology. She teaches O& G to undergraduate students at the School of Medicine at the James Cook University. Medical interns, house officers, registrars and fellows routinely train under the supervision of Dr Kannan each year. Dr Kannan is one of the few Certified Clinical Investigators in her profession. Scholarly Interest
Dr Kannan’s research efforts over the last few years have been focussed around the safety and efficacy of various graft materials used in pelvic reconstructive surgery. Long-term research interests will focus towards gaining insights in to the etiology of pelvic organ prolapse and methods used in minimally invasive surgery for pelvic floor repair and reconstruction. Dr Kannan is currently involved in a curriculum content development project as a part of her work with the Harvard Macy Institute in the United States.
